Mini cake smash..

You may ask.. why so many posts on Lil's I birthday?! Haha.. liked I said.. he might be the last baby we have, so why not?

This was actually done on the night of his actual birthday. I love it how he enjoys it. Didnt capture the whole episode cos it got interrupted when lil I generously spread his fingers full of cream on Isa's face. which was so hilarious for us to continue.

Anyway enjoy.
Love his expressions.

Isaiah's first birthday routine - 抓岁

I believe many of you would still have this practice with your child when they turn one. And there are always very different versions of it. Many would practise this on the lunar birthday of the child. To be honest, other than Dora's lunar birthday, I dont rem for the boys.

And Ray papa and I always have this joke: We call this the "Choose your fate" or CYF ceremony.

Anyway so here was the one we did with Lil I. And I was quite surprised at his "choice".

Sensorial play for children under 12 months..

Many of us always run out of ideas fast when it comes to playing with the little ones.. we are all wary of that what chemical, what toxic, what colouring.. so many a times, we tend to fall into the trap of using the electronics. Not that electronics are not good, but I believe that if we can introduce them at a later stage, we should just try to push it to a later stage.

Anyway I have been quite inspired by a friend of mine, who is doing many interesting activities with her little one at home and of course this one that I picked is one of my favourite as preparation time is only less than 10 minutes yet it kept lil I engaged for more than 20 minutes!

"Babies may be limited by their mobility and dexterity, but not their ability to interact with the world. Babies can enjoy the feeling of water in a pool or bath, take in the movement of wind on a walk, and respond to the sounds of music playing on the stereo. As babies become toddlers, they’ll want to feel a variety of materials, scoop and sort small objects, and experiment with the properties of cause and effect (i.e. what will happen if I dump this bowl of sand?)."

And who say play should be alone!
See the video on how funny the episode can get..

And fun gets bigger and better when your siblings play with you!

Day 13: Laugh

Beware. Her laughters are very contagious.

And I simply love it when Isa tries to make Mei mei laugh.

Toilet Rolls..

Just when you thought a toilet roll cupboard is useless, it was fun to her.
It was fun watching her how she managed to squeeze her right arm into it yet she could not do it with her left. It was fun how she tried to "talk" into the toilet roll yet end up biting it.
It was just fun.
Thank God for moments like this.

Day 9: 1st Birthdays

This post actually gave me to a chance to write more about this traditional ritual for my children's first birthdays. Commonly known as "Dua Zhe" (Hokkien - loosely translated as "big seating" in their first birthday)
Does anyone still practise this "Dua Zhe" ritual in your family?

Here are some simple translations on the items of Dua Zhe:
  • Food: means the child will always have food to eat but old folks chose to believe that the child is a glutton
  • Abacus or Calculator: Child will have a penchant for statistics or financing
  • Stationery: the child will be industrious and endowed with great literary talents
In my family, we usually chose some items under the different categories. There are no hard and fast rules. In case if you want to know more about this  practice.

Oh ya, if you saw, both my kids chose the pen. Did someone say industrious and great literary talents?

*look at sky and wonder*

Anyway here are the photographs.

Dora in walker

In this short video clip, you might be able to pick out Isadora's understanding of language

  • I asked her where is Dora the doll and she looked at it
  • I asked her to kiss Dora and she did
  • I asked her where are her eyes and she blinked hard
  • I imitated the sound of the phone ringing and she placed her hand at her ear

Did you manage to catch all these little actions that Isadora did?
Amazing lil milestones that she had achieved at a tender age of 12.5mths
