Birth Story.. #2

As this is not my first pregnancy, I somewhat know what to anticipate for the arrival of this lil one. I started my ML (Maternity Leave) from the 16th Jan, when I was in my 37 weeks, thinking and hoping that this lil one will arrive a tad earlier due to gynae's estimation for her weight.
But alas she did not. I waited and we waited. But she did not arrive. We even celebrated Isadore's birthday in school on the 16th and thereafter had another mini celebration for his birthday on 24th but she still kept us waiting. Isadore even asked, "I am already 5, why is pinu not out yet?" It was a long wait till 30th Jan.

On an average, when a baby starts moving in mummy's body, they should move on an average 20 times per day. Can be anything more or less but definitely cannot be less than 10 times. I learnt about this fact when my gynae taught me how to do the fetal chart movement. So on this very day, after sending Isadore to school, I knew something was not right by evening time as this lil girl barely moved 5 times that day. I called ah lao around 5pm, updated him what he happened and he got immediately activated to come back from work to fetch me to hospital for a check. I called the hospital too and they also told me to go down for a check. So to play safe, we brought the hospital bag and also packed Isadore's tons of pillows in a trolley bag (in case we need to send him to my parent's place to stay over).

Upon reaching the hospital, the nurse checked and told me that I was 1 cm dilated. Talked to the gynae and he said "we shall forward the induction program to tonight". At 8.30pm, the prostin was inserted. This is the sign. Isadora will arrive soon..

At around 9pm, my contractions came. I called ah lao, who was sending my parents and Isadore back to Jurong, that I NEED him to come back right after sending them. I knew she will come soon.

Ah Lao reached around 10pm. The contractions were more regular. I lost count of the regularity as I was trying to distract myself with SMS and social networking. Around this time, the nurse had observed that the lil one's heartbeat will drop a little whenever my contraction came so the nurse asked me to administer the oxygen mask as required. It was helping the lil one but it was not helping me as I was getting very tired from smelling the oxygen. I was getting tired and sleepy but the contractions were keeping me awake.

From midnight to 5am, the contractions were getting really close and intense that I had to hold on to ah lao's hand whenever my contractions came. At around 2.45am, the nurse checked me and told me I was only 4-5cm dilated. I was happy in a way cos I knew at least the cervix was dilating then the contractions continue to come. They were REALLY painful. at 5 am, I finally asked for pain relief. I am not a epi fan so my first choice was the laughing gas. I even rem telling the nurse that I feel the baby was going down the birth passage. But all she could say was, "That good news!" Then deja vu came once I placed the mask over my nose and mouth. I was in and out of consciousness. I suddenly rem how I gave birth to Isadore and beanie. Everything just came back in a flash. I even rem asking ah lao the time when the pain was the most intense. I kept grabbing his hand. I perspired non stop. The time was 5.30am.

I had the urge to push. I pressed the call bell SO quickly that it slipped out of my hands. I continue to hold the mask over my face. I did not even had the energy to tell ah lao.. THE BABY WAS COMING! I thought there was someone professional in front of me but there was none. Ah lao did not even had the time to tell nurse. I was already pushing the baby out by myself as I was holding his hands that tight! He was helpless yet he could not leave. I pushed and I pushed and I PUSHED. He only told me he saw that I was perspiring away and the BP machine was beeping away so as he was cleaning my perspiration, he heard CRIES! It was from Isadora! She was already out! Right in front on my bed without anyone assisting. The time was 6.05am.

Then the whole observation ward got into a frenzy! I could hear hysterical exclamation everywhere as I continue to be in semi sober mode. I was then quickly pushed to the labour ward for my gynae to follow up with me. I was still in huge pain from the pushing but since she was out, crying LOUDLY. I heaved a sigh of relief. I put the mask away and I breath normally. I did not cry.I was smiling at ah lao and he told me, "Pinu is out." I nodded my head then I heard my gynae's voice.

A little commotion continued in my labour ward among the gynae and the nurses. I rested and waited for my gynae to sitch my natural tear. He even joked, "Wah. this girl is so impatient." I smiled and I replied, "Ya." I was not on gas anymore when he was sitching my wound, gynae asked if it was painful. I told him, "She is already out, nothing is more painful than that."

Its a long story but this is it. I have only the Lord to thank for cos I prayed for willpower and perseverance for this birth and He did bless me with them. I am very amazed with myself too. 30min of labour and she came.

I wonder how fast if I have a 3rd one?

Braxton's Hicks..

I have been having some regular Braxton's Hicks of recent. Though I can safety declare that they are not pre-labour signs as yet but it can get quite worrying cos the supposedly edd for our dear ms pinu is 3rd Feb. And because of this worry, I decided to start my Maternity Leave (ML) to start on 16 Jan 2012 (when I am about 37 weeks preg)..

On top of this, from my last visit at 32 weeks preg, my gynae also gave me the admission letter which is an indication to say that I can be admitted so as long as one of the 5 signs of labour appears. Here are the 5 signs:

  • Your baby "drops."
If this is your first pregnancy, you may feel what's known as "lightening" a few weeks before labor starts. You might sense a heaviness in your pelvis as this happens and notice less pressure just below your ribcage, making it easier to catch your breath.

  • You note more Braxton Hicks contractions.
More frequent and intense Braxton Hicks contractions can signal pre-labor, during which your cervix ripens (see below) and the stage is set for true labor. Some women experience a crampy, menstrual-like feeling during this time.

  • Your cervix starts to change.
In the days and weeks before delivery, changes in the connective tissue of your cervix cause it to soften. What's more, Braxton Hicks contractions may do some of the preliminary work of thinning and perhaps opening your cervix a bit. (If you've given birth before, your cervix is more likely to dilate a centimeter or two before labor starts, but keep in mind that even being 40 weeks pregnant with your first baby and 1 centimeter dilated is no guarantee that labor is imminent.)

When you're at or near your due date, your practitioner may do a vaginal exam during your prenatal visit to see whether your cervix has started to change.

  • You pass your mucus plug or notice "bloody show."
You may pass your mucus plug — the small amount of thickened mucus that has sealed your cervical canal during the last nine months — if your cervix begins to efface significantly or dilate as you get close to labor.

The plug may come out in a lump or as increased vaginal discharge over the course of several days. The mucus may be tinged with brown, pink, or red blood, which is why it's referred to as "bloody show." Having sex or a vaginal exam can also disturb your mucus plug and cause you to see some blood-tinged discharge, even when labor isn't going to start in the next few days.

  • Your water breaks.
When the fluid-filled amniotic sac surrounding your baby ruptures, fluid leaks from your vagina. And whether it comes out in a large gush or a small trickle, you should call your doctor or midwife.

Most women start having regular contractions before their water breaks, but in some cases, the water breaks first. When this happens, labor usually follows soon. If you don't start having contractions on your own within a certain amount of time, you'll need to be induced, since your baby's more likely to get an infection without the amniotic sac's protection against germs.

Akan Datang..

Gynae said this little girlie is on the path of coming out at ard 3.5kg and he was so shocked when he heard I did not want to take epidural. *proud* hehe..

To nurture the love..

Nobody said it was easy.. N I did not underestimate it but apparently it is really that difficult to teach a child to loves other one esp knowing this lil one will come n share the attention of your parents. Yes if u know what I am talking about..

It is about teaching and nurturing Isadore to love the lil sister.. It's about also teaching him to be as gracious as Him to love another person who is going to share his love for this whom we called our new bundle of joy.. In less than 2 months' time, she should arrive with His blessings definitely.

And I promise we will do our best to continue to nurture this older child of our with more of His wisdom words n knowledge so that he will teach the lil one about who He is. God's love is so deep n wide. He knows I am worried thus he is allowing me to spend more time with Isadore n also give us more space n time to nurture our love for the lil one.

He knows I am worried as I have been having vivid dreams of my water bag bursting in the middle of the night(I know it is a silly thought) or the other what ifs...

He knows I need more strength now thus He asks me to rest today (with the excuse of an MC) *hiaks.

He also knows that this is a period of life that I needed Him most.. Cos I know He is always there for me whenever I say a prayer..

He never walks out, He never gives up.. He never says no..
Thank you God for giving me strength.. Love.. Perseverance n everything.

Despite my absence in church.

28 weeks.. And still growing..

2006 Nov. Isa inside my tummy at 30 weeks. 42 inches.

2011 Nov. Ms Pinu inside my tummy at 28 weeks. 44.5 inches.

I went to the gynae jus a couple of days ago and guess what? Ms pinu's weight is already estimated at 1.2-1.3kg!!

Isadore's was only at 1.2kg when I was at my 30 weeks when I was expecting him back then.. No wonder gynae said with Ms pinu's development, she should be a bigger baby if compare to korkor.

Oh no..

and did anyone notice that the "shape" of my tummy looks somewhat different in the two pregnancies? Have you ever heard before that if you are expecting a boy, your tummy will be more "sharp" (aka pointy and you would not even look like your pregnant from your back view) and when you are expecting a girl, your tummy will be more "round" (that should explains my "growing" truck)

what say you?

coming to the end of first trimester..

I am officially in my 11th week of pregnancy which only means Im moving out of the first trimester at the end of next week.. yeah!

If you are wondering why I would wanna blog about it cos of recent, I indeed have had the worst morning sickness ever.. Here goes my typical day at least for the last 4 weeks:

Morning

Week 4-7:
waking up with a heavy head wanting to vomit yet nothing comes out. Just wanting to do the gagging feel. If you know what my gagging means, it means wanting to make the vomit action with exaggerated sound. Rhinitis at work.

Week 8 to now:
My sickening allergic rhinitis came back again to bug me with a very blocked nose till I had to blow my nose.. say every 10 min. Went to the GP just two days ago and he only diagnosed it as a "aggravated version of my original allergy caused by pregnancy hormones". -.- he did prescribe me a non-drowsy medicine for "unblocking" my nose but apparently I need to take it twice a day and I actually knocked out afte taking the medicine so I only dare to take it before I sleep. How effective can that gets?

Afternoon

Week 4-7:
Thank goodness I still can take in some carbo types of food such as rice and noodles.

Week 8 to now:
lunch is basically regular, with the ability to finish one whole pack of economic rice or noodles.

Dinner

Week 4-7:
hungry but no appetite yet stomach churns and churns for food. No craving from week 4-7. Soup /warm/fried food simply turns me off. See a sumptous dinner being cooked at home yet have no appetite to eat. Took a few mouthful and just pushed the plate away. Soy sauce based food is also a no-no..

Week 8 to now:
so far can still eat but appetite is still half compared to my pre-pregnancy. Plus ah lao not coming home a couple of days a week also contributes to this bad appetite I guess.

No supper so far

Weight check from pre-pregnancy to week 7:
+4kg from pre-pregnancy week

Weight check from week 7- week10:
no weight gain

Chicken soup anyone? My MS (morning sickness) is still quite bad. And I'm actually craving for Mac's Fillet O Fish! I wonder why.. I also craved for Satay.. Cold drinks.. Are these all normal? Haha.. I rem I used to drink Vanilla Coke by half the dozen when I was expecting Isadore. Guess it's no longer the same :)
